"Looks like they've done it again! The city of Agueda, Portugal has once again decorated some of their streets with colorful canopies of umbrellas! Flickr photographer Patrícia Almeida took these great shots of them last year, which went viral. The installation was part of an art festival called Agitagueda. Production company Sextafeira Produções had created the cheery installation to turn traditional shopping streets into an engaging visual experience.Just yesterday, Patrícia took these new shots of Agueda's umbrella canopies. They will stay up throughout the month of July. If you're wondering what it's like to stand directly underneath, you're in luck, Patrícia has the answer. "I felt like a kid," she states, "amazed by all that color!"(Quote from website)

I find this installation beautiful. It adds colour and vibrancy to ordinary life, which I think is a power that is often overlooked when it comes to art. Being controversial, minimalist or purely conceptual seems to carry more strength in artistic circles, yet I find art that makes light of the world and adds beauty to it to be more appealing.

This installation wasn't made for a specific gallery space, but was made for this street area and complimented the spirit of the place in which it was put.
